Our Privacy Policy

MapMe recognizes that our users have legitimate concerns about privacy. This Privacy Policy, sets forth our practices regarding the collection and use of "Personal Information " as well as the choices we offer you regarding the use of this information. "Personal Information " is information that personally identifies you, including, for example, your name, address, and email address. This Privacy Policy only addresses our activities from our servers.

You provide certain Personal Information to us when you register for: (a) a MapMe Code or with our search engine, (b) sign up for special offers from selected third parties on our registration page, (c) enter any competitions sponsored by us or one of our partners. We may also collect Personal Information from you at other points on our site that state that Personal Information is being collected. The more information you volunteer (and the more accurate it is), the better we are able to customize your experience. Once you register you are no longer anonymous to MapMe and are able to take full advantage of MapMe's many features.

Our servers automatically collect information about which sites users visit and which pages are viewed within the MapMe web site. We use cookies placed by third party servers to target the advertising delivered to you. This practice is common in Internet advertising.

We use Personal Information, among other things, for billing purposes, to anticipate and resolve problems with your service, to personalize your service, to investigate activity that may violate our user agreement, and to develop and market products and services that may be of interest to you. We will not disclose your Personal Information to third parties that wish to inform you of or provide to you certain products and services. You should note that Personal Information that you voluntarily disclose on your personal homepage, in forums or in chat rooms may be used by third parties.

In our role of delivering targeted advertisements, MapMe plays the middleman. Advertisers give us an advertisement and tell us the type of audience they want to reach (for example, users in a specific geographical area). MapMe takes the advertisement and displays it on the MapMe Web Site to users meeting that criteria. In this process, the advertiser never has access to individual account information. Only MapMe has access to individuals' accounts. This kind of advertisement targeting is done with banner ads as well as promotional email. You will only receive special offers via email from MapMe only if you have indicated during registration that you would like to receive them. You can change your preferences at any time.

MapMe does internal research on our users' demographics, interests, and behaviour based on the information provided to us upon registration, during a promotion, or from our server log files. We do this to better understand and serve our users. This research is compiled and analysed on an aggregated basis.

Sharing of Personal Information
As a general rule, MapMe will not disclose any of your personally identifiable information except when we have your permission or under special circumstances, such as when we believe in good faith that the law requires it or under the circumstances described below. The following describes some of the ways that your information may be disclosed.

Third Party Data & Data in the Aggregate: Under confidentiality agreements, MapMe may match Personal Information with third party data. Also, MapMe discloses aggregated user statistics (for example, 45% of our users are female) in order to describe our services to prospective partners, advertisers, and other third parties, and for other lawful purposes.

Other: MapMe may also disclose Personal Information in special cases when we have reason to believe that disclosing this information is necessary to identify, contact or bring legal action against someone who may be causing injury to or interference with (either intentionally or unintentionally) MapMe's rights or property, other MapMe users, or anyone else that could be harmed by such activities. MapMe may disclose Personal Information when we believe in good faith that the law requires it.

User Choices
We offer registered users choices regarding our use of your Personal Information. You can change, add or delete certain Personal Information you supplied to us by logging in to MapMe Maintenance. If you delete such information, it cannot be used by us or disclosed to third parties in the future. You can opt-out of receiving email messages from us about products and services that may be of interest to you. If you indicated upon registration that you are interested in receiving offers or information from MapMe, we may occasionally send you e-mail or postal mail about products and services that we feel may be of interest to you. Only MapMe (or agents working on behalf of MapMe and under confidentiality agreements) will send you these direct mailings and only if you indicated that you do not object to these offers. If you do not want to receive such mailings, simply tell us when you give us your personal information.

Or, at any time you can easily edit your MapMe registration information to no longer receive such offers and mailings. You will need your MapMe username and password in order to access your MapMe registration information.

On some types of MapMe's promotions, we will ask for your email address in order to update you on your score, entries, and status in prize drawings. When you participate in these types of promotions, you may automatically receive promotion-related email. Occasionally these promotion-related email messages may include targeted advertisements.
